It’s #wonderfulwomanwednesday and today we’re meeting Raquel Phillips
Raquel is a 28-year-old woman, the woman behind the lens at Raquel Phillips Photography
What inspired her to pursue photography was her passion for capturing moments, and making people smile.
“July 2018, I had a miscarriage at 3 months pregnant. I developed a condition called “placenta accreta”. I was hospitalized twice, and at risk of having a hysterectomy. I’m a wife, and mom – I could not breakdown, right? Through it all I remained strong, within a month, during my recovery I was able to get back into photography. The result, completing 15 weddings in one year. I have managed to be a wife, mom, work a 9-5 job and run my photography business, whilst dealing with the loss of my unborn child.
Why am I sharing this story- I am inspired by strong independent women, the “go-getters” out there. I’d like to encourage all females. You are capable of doing anything you set your mind to. I believe if we a woman stand together, greatness can come from it. We need to support each other, uplift one another, instead of constantly competing.”
Raquel is currently running a competition on her Facebook page: One free matric farewell shoot for an underprivileged student, who is not able to afford a photography. She’d love to help make someone’s day one to remember for a lifetime.
Raquel’s favourite quote: “Be your biggest competitor. Challenge yourself each day to be better than you were yesterday”
